F.A.B. presents Surfers Healing with a $3,000 check with funds raised from Taste of Folly

At the May meeting of the Folly Association of Business (FAB), president Lewis Dodson presented Nancy Hussey, director of the local chapter of Surfers Healing, with a $3,000 check. The funds were raised by FAB at the Taste of Folly in January, through a silent auction, a date auction, a cocktail competition, and with vender fees.

Surfers Healing is a surf camp for children with autism. The organization works with more than 4,500 children across the country each year, giving them a therapeutic experience through surfing.

“In order to provide this one perfect day on Folly Beach, we need a lot of sponsorship and do a lot of fundraising all year around. So we really appreciate having (FAB) onboard,” said Hussey. “I appreciate any amount of money that they give us. This really eases the burden.”

For Dodson, the fact that FAB could offer this money locally to a non-profit such as Surfers Healing, is just another reason why street festivals are good for Folly. “The Folly Association of Business is glad to offer these festivals for the community,” he said. “And we love the positive result of them benefitting a charity here in our community.”

Hussey says the timing of the donation was great. “Every year our needs are greater and I want to make it bigger and better,” she says. Folly Beach’s annual Surfers Healing Camp will be held on Aug. 20 near the Folly Beach Fishing Pier.
