Special to The Current
The City of Folly Beach has contracted with ECN CODE RED (Emergency Communication Network) to provide Community Alerting System services. The system is used to notify all residents in the event of an emergency or other information of importance. In order to receive notifications cellular phones or e-mail addresses must be registered.
The Community Alerting System, also known as Outbound 9-1-1, is an automated system that calls homes and businesses to notify them about serious emergencies. The system will also direct you to take specific actions during an emergency. It will also be used to notify you of other important information, water main breaks, power outages, etc.
In the event of an emergency, public safety or public works personnel will identify the affected area and activate the system. It will automatically call all telephone numbers within a specified area and deliver a recorded message.
Uses for the Community Alerting System include but are not limited to the following: Amber Alerts, Missing Person Alerts, Emergency Evacuations, Local Security and Crime Alerts, Weather Emergencies, Hazardous Materials Events, Water Main Breaks, and Power Outages.
Folly Beach residents and other interested parties can sign up for the service at https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/A9F7CFD976D0, or through the City of Folly Beach website, www.cityoffollybeach.com.
