Two-day celebration of art, music, family fun, and coastal traditions will be held Feb. 21-22

from Staff Reports

The annual Sea & Sand Festival, Folly Beach’s longest-running festival, returns Feb. 21–22, marking its 34th year with a whole weekend of family-friendly events, local culture, and coastal celebration. Spanning from Folly River Park to the beachfront, Sea & Sand brings together art, music, competition, and community in one of the Lowcountry’s most beloved traditions.

“Coming off the success of Taste of Folly last month, we’re really looking forward to hosting one more street festival before we say goodbye to winter and welcome the spring and summer crowds,” says Vince Perna, president of the Folly Association of Business (FAB), the organization that puts on the festival.

The weekend kicks off with “Salty Saturday”, when Center Street will be closed and transformed into a vibrant festival hub from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local Folly vendors, restaurants, and bars will take over the street alongside more than 80 art, craft, and fashion vendors, live local bands, and a robust kids’ area designed for family fun. Saturday will also feature a live Surfboard Painting Contest, where artists will compete to transform surfboards into original works of art. Following the festival, the finished boards will be displayed as a public art installation throughout Folly Beach.

On Sunday, the celebration moves to the shoreline for the highly anticipated Sand Sculpting Competition, beginning at 10 a.m. on the beachfront near The Tides, where teams and individuals will compete in a creative, family-friendly showcase of beachside artistry.

Center Street will close Saturday at 7 a.m. and reopen at 5:30 p.m., with festival hours open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the door, with free admission for Folly Beach residents (with a valid driver’s license) and children 12 and under. A special thank you to event sponsors Spritz Cart, Renewal by Andersen, Folly Best Rentals, Dunes Properties, Carolina One Vacation Rentals, and MyOceanRental for helping make Sea & Sand possible.

“Sea and Sand is the longest-running festival on Folly, and because of that, it’s also one of the most beloved,” says Perna. “It’s traditionally been a sign that colder weather is winding down, and it marks the unofficial start of the beach season. It’s always a good time.”

The 34th annual Sea & Sand festival will be held Feb. 21–22. Admission is free for Folly Beach residents with identification and $10 for everyone else. For more information or to purchase tickets, head to www.VisitFolly.com or follow Visit Folly on social media.
