Free concerts return to Folly River Park with City’s Spring Concert Series
from Staff Reports
The City of Folly Beach is ushering in the spring season with the return of its popular Spring Concert Series, offering locals and visitors alike a chance to enjoy live music in one of the island’s most scenic settings. The free concert series kicks off this April at Folly River Park, with two performances scheduled to start the season. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, soak in the warmer weather, and settle in for evenings filled with Lowcountry breezes and live entertainment.
The series opens Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m. with a performance by Broken Skyline, a group of seasoned musicians known for their unique blend of bluegrass and classic rock influences. Centered around a shared appreciation for Tom Petty’s music, the band delivers a tribute experience that goes beyond straightforward covers. Their performances weave together familiar hits and deeper cuts from Petty’s catalog, all while infusing a bluegrass-inspired sound that gives the music a fresh, distinctive feel. The result is a set that feels both nostalgic and original, appealing to longtime fans and new listeners alike.
Later in the month, on Thursday, April 23 at 6 p.m., the series continues with Me & Mr. Jones, a dynamic R&B act rooted in the Charleston music scene. Formed in 2015 by vocalist Alyce Marie Rogers and guitarist Chris Dodson, the group has built a reputation for its versatile sound and engaging performances. Whether appearing as a duo, trio, or full band, Me & Mr. Jones delivers soulful renditions of classic hits, pop favorites, and rhythm and blues staples. Rogers’ powerful vocal range pairs seamlessly with Dodson’s groovy, jazz-tinged guitar work, creating a sound that is both polished and full of personality.
Both concerts will take place at Folly River Park, located at 50 Center Street, offering a picturesque waterfront backdrop for the performances. With free admission and a laid-back atmosphere, the Spring Concert Series continues to be a favorite community tradition, bringing people together through music as the island transitions into its busiest season.
