Celebrate the coming of 2023 at the Folly Beach Flip Flop Drop as the infamous pair of giant sparkly flip-flops descend from high above Center Street to mark the stroke of midnight! Immediately following the drop, the Folly Association of Business will host a grand fireworks show on the beach to kick off the new year with a bang. Everyone near and far is welcome to join us early in our laid-back and fun beach town to celebrate the holiday at many of our restaurants and bars on the island. Center Street will close to auto traffic at 10 pm to allow revelers to flow into the street before midnight
The fun doesn’t stop there! Start the new year in an exciting and hilarious way with the 9th Annual Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Bear Plunge & Costume Contest on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Dress as your favorite Bill Murray character (or whatever costume floats your boat) and enter the Costume Contest to win prizes for Best Girl, Best Guy, Best Kid, Best Team, and Best Overall Bill Murray. Then, “freeze your Bills off” as you take a deep plunge into the chilly Atlantic.
There is a $5 contest entry fee for participants 18+. No charge for the plunge! The costume contest will begin at 10 am on the beach at the Tides Hotel and the Plunge into the chilly Atlantic waters will commence at 11 am.
