Charleston County Parks hosts first dancing event on the new pier on May 5

from Staff Reports

The Moonlight Mixer series on the Folly Beach Pier is back this month. The first dance since 2020 will be held on May 5, 2023 at the newly reopened Folly Beach Pier.

All ages are invited to celebrate summertime with some dancing on the Folly Beach Pier. On three Friday evenings this summer, DJ John Dixon will keep dancers’ feet moving with the hottest oldies and beach music. Dancers can bring a date or meet friends, let loose, breathe in the ocean air, and enjoy breezes on the pier. The 2023 Moonlight Mixer dates are May 5, June 16, and July 7. Event hours are 7-10:30 p.m.

Admission purchased in advance is $8 per person; on-site tickets will be $10 per person, if the event has not sold out. Tickets are limited and the events are expected to sell out, so advance purchase is recommended.

Beverages will be available for purchase on site. No outside food or beverage is allowed, and pets are not permitted at the event. Food and snacks will be available for purchase at the Pier 101 Restaurant and the Gangplank Gift & Tackle Shop, both located at the entrance to the pier. Food, beverages and any parking fees are not included with ticket purchase. Chairs are welcome as seating is limited.

Following a two-year reconstruction process, the new Folly Beach Pier opened to the public on Dec. 26, 2022. The new 1049-foot-long pier features concrete pilings and substructure, with a wooden walkway and railings.

Amenities at the Folly Beach Pier include restrooms, the Pier 101 Restaurant and Bar, beach access, showers, and the Gangplank Gift & Tackle Shop (which, in addition to selling gifts, sundry items, refreshments and tackle/bait, offers rod rentals). The iconic Folly Beach Pier is the perfect location for saltwater fishing, walking, birding and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the “Edge of America.”
